From the Music Department:
The BLACK AND WHITE CONCERT is coming up soon – Saturday, Feb. 18th at 7:30 pm. This is a fun annual benefit event that features piano music by our own members and special guests. Everyone is encouraged to dress in black and white formal attire. Dig out that tux or sequin-studded black dress that hasn’t seen the light of day for years gone by. Extravagant headgear is also encouraged. After the concert we treat ourselves to a potluck of exclusively black and white finger food. Remember to bring finger food – nothing that needs a fork or other utensil. Tickets are reasonably priced at $20 in advance and $25 at the door, but you can always give more.
Keep Singing, Severin

Playing in the Sage ....
“If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.”
-----Albert Einstein

I now believe stopping to think…“how would I explain this to a child?” before doing (or saying) things would help us live more intentionally in the world. Going on autopilot lets so many things get away from us unexamined, as individuals and as a people on this planet.
The friends at Pacific Sage have been celebrating Valentine’s Day this past week (for several days). It was interesting to process this holiday with the children because many come from cultures where this is not celebrated.
We also like to practice the  “Socratic Method” of learning at Pacific Sage whenever possible, so we gathered together to discuss, question and come to an understanding of this Valentine experience. Explaining the who, what and when of the day was pretty simple but then we got to the why
T:   Valentine’s Day is a special day for people to do things to show their family
and friends that they love and like them. On that day, they give them flowers, or
presents and, say “I love you.”
M:   Only that day not the next day?
Hmmm…yes, what about the next day?
Most times more is not better it’s just more, but where love and affection are concerned…more is definitely better!
So on this 16th day of February, “Be Mine Valentine!”
Peace AND Love,

BUDDHIST MEDITATION GROUP meets at PUC Library Tuesday evenings, 7:30-9:00 pm.
Learn meditation and the purpose of meditation in the Buddhist wisdom tradition. Developing our love and compassion for all beings, we can find joy and meaning in life. Give yourself the gift of presence!
Newcomers welcome anytime, no experience required. Just bring an open mind and a kind heart - we can even help you find those! While meditation instruction is free, donations ($10-$20) to support our activity are gratefully accepted.
Dan Dempster has been authorized by Khenpo Migmar Tseten (Buddhist chaplain at Harvard University and Director of the Sakya Institute for Buddhist Study, Cambridge) and is a certified meditation instructor.
