The Ministerial Search Committee --
Where Have You Been?
You may be wondering what the Ministerial Search Committee (MSC) has been up to lately as you have not heard from us in awhile -- well, we've actually been busier than ever!
As shared previously, during the months of October and November, the MSC was hard at work preparing PUC's congregational record which included information on PUC's history, financials, survey results, and more. During the month of December, potential ministers reviewed congregational records of churches in the ministerial search process while the MSC anxiously waited to see who would show interest in PUC.
On January 2 - the first day that ministers can post interest - the MSC was delighted to receive a list of potential candidates for PUC! Since that time, we have been reviewing the candidates' packets and conducting some preliminary phone interviews. We cannot share candidates' names or share details of our discussions to respect the candidates' confidentiality.
Once we narrow the search to the most promising candidates, we'll choose a few to preach in "neutral pulpits" - churches where neither the candidate nor the MSC is known. From that group, we'll select a final candidate to visit PUC in April.
Although we can't share candidate details, please contact us anytime with questions regarding the process at msc@pacificunitarian.org
Yours in Service,
The MSC (Darcy Carroll, Maurice Chevalier, Naresh Deo, Pam Harris, Gary Hart, Janet Kissner, Caitlin Masters)

Meditation and Mindfulness for Children
(and those who pretend to be grown-up)
Sunday 29 January, 2017
12:15  (after lunch)
in the Hall.
All are welcome

This Sunday we will be offering a very special meditation instruction. Children, young adults, grown-ups and the young-at-heart are all encouraged to attend to learn simple, yet effective techniques for cultivating calm, concentration, and kindness.
Through the development of loving-kindness and compassion towards ourselves, our loved ones, and all beings, we can over time dissolve anxiety and conflict and let our innate confidence and generosity flourish. Becoming more present, aware, and awake, we can find the richness and beauty of life as children do, in the perfection of things as they are.
Wouldn’t this be a nice gift to give yourself and your family? Join us!
Dan Dempster has been authorized by Khenpo Migmar Tseten, Buddhist Chaplain at Harvard University. He is a member of PUC and leads 7:30-9:00 Tuesday evening Buddhist meditation practice in the library.

Playing in the Sage ....

“If you really want to make a friend, go to someone’s house and eat with him… the people who give you their food give you their heart.”
                                                                                   ---Cesar Chavez
Kiko, who is from Brazil, recently brought “Pao de Queijo – Cheese Bread” to share. The friends had been a little cranky with each other lately, but this is not unusual after weather that has made us too close companions for too long. This Brazilian treat is delicious and it didn’t take long for the friends to be friends again. Watching them sit together laughing and talking in little groups while they ate these little warm balls of wonder, I was again amazed at our mix of children.
The friends that live and work together at Pacific Sage Preschool are a diverse lot…each one walking that fine line between unique and individual or weird and eccentric. Culturally, they represent eleven countries and nine different languages, so it is sometimes work to become a bonded and connected learning community. There are many differences such as language, family/culture customs, and simply individual preferences that we need to understand before they become obstacles getting in our way.
Acknowledging where we are different, we look for the places where we are the same…and everybody has to eat! “FOOD” is a sturdy yummy bridge to build between us and we take many opportunities to cook with the friends, using the things growing in the children’s (and Permaculture) garden.
Making food and eating together is more than a time to talk, taste new foods, and try on new ideas. It is a time to offer another a little piece of our heart.
